Holy shit, apparently the rapidly developing bromance (which I talked about a bit a couple of weeks back) between Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn is so visible from outer space that there's even an entire story about it linked on the front page sidebar of NHL.com. Given how little the Stars tend to get covered in the national media, that's kind of seriously astonishing.

Here be quotes! )

Even before the trade I had more Tyler Seguin feelings than I really wanted to admit to myself, but now that they've collided with my Dallas Stars and Jamie Benn feelings... it turns out that's almost too many feelings to be able to write about them. But the good news is, it doesn't matter if I manage to beat those feelings into submission long enough to shape a fic out of them or not, for [livejournal.com profile] hapakitsune has provided:

settle down, it'll all be clear (2002 words) by hapakitsune
Fandom: Hockey RPF
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Tyler Seguin/Jamie Benn
Characters: Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin
Additional Tags: Power Dynamics, Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot
Summary: It just felt right, going up to Tyler's place instead of his own.

Bookmarker's Notes: A perfect balance of hot and sweet, with really lovely, deft characterization -- somehow intense and understated and full of nearly-unspoken context all at once, which is exactly, exactly right for the pairing.

Seriously, I loved this fic SO MUCH. I've been falling down on the job lately in terms of reccing (or even commenting, sometimes, which I feel bad about, but well, I'm kind of in a mental state where either things happen or they don't and I don't seem to have much direct control over it), but with all the Benn/Seguin feelings I've been having, I just had to call this one out. It made me so happy! I bet you will enjoy it, too.

A few pictures for reference, because why not! )

Here's a confession, I watch way too much food-related television. It's oddly soothing, and it's easy to multitask while watching it. And, well, I just really love food. Top Chef: All-Stars was an especially entertaining season of Top Chef, I thought, and not just because some of the food looked delicious. There were some very distinctive personalities that season, but more than that, there was some real, sparky, charming, sincere camaraderie that developed between some of the chefs that was really great to see. This fic captures all of that, adds in a healthy dash of hijinks, and sets it afloat in space, complete with an experimental robot, a little f/f human/hologram romance, and tons and tons of references to the show. Pure delight!

1. Dim sum! And they even had chrysanthemum tea! Served, exactly as it should be, with a little dish of rock sugar. *swoon* (It is strangely difficult to find in the US, so it is very, very exciting to know that there is a place nearby that has it!) Deliciousness. ) Definitely going back there.

2. [livejournal.com profile] antumbral's Hockey RPF (Blackhawks)/Generation Kill fusion-crossover ficlet (also here), in which Duncan Keith is a spotter, Patrick Sharp is his sniper, Patrick Kane is their driver/communications guy, and Jonathan Toews is (of course) their fearless leader. It is just so ridiculously pleasing. ♥

3. Yes, I'm still basically in the process of falling in love with hockey. I watched half of 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic (only half because the Housemate twice (twice!) deleted the first two episodes before I had the chance to watch them) and it was awesome. I have had to start actively preventing myself from spending all my time reading articles and blogs (and re-reading fic), because there are a lot of things that actually need to get done this month (we're moving, among other things; there is a lot in my life to be stressed out about, at the moment), but it's fun to know it's all out there for me to absorb when I have the chance.

4. Porn Battle XI is coming! :D Prompting will start tomorrow and run through Friday, January 21st, and the dates of the actual battle are Sunday, January 23rd to Thursday, February 3rd. [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis has more information up here and here. All fandoms welcome! Come post some prompts! (See the FAQ for info on how to format them correctly and all that jazz.) I have started my brainstorming list for prompts, but got a little distracted by a fic idea, so I still have much to do. Possibly I ought to make sure to prompt something that the fic idea would fill, because my desire to write the scene that's been on repeat in my head for the past few days has gotten pretty strong. Two hockey players, one figure skater, 2010 Winter Olympics, happy shiny super-porny ménage à trois featuring oral sex and instructional dirty talk -- should be fun, if I can make it work!

5. Shearwater is still one of the best live shows I have ever seen or ever will see. Never fancy, just them and their many, many instruments (all of them played between 3 to 6 instruments over the course of the show), but breathtaking, engrossing, charming, intense, and so, so gorgeous. They performed The Island Arc (Palo Santo, Rook, and The Golden Archipelago) all the way through (with 10 minute breaks between albums), seven people on stage (if I remember correctly the previous two times I saw them they usually had five people) all playing with total commitment. I am a little bit in love with Jonathan Meiburg, I think, and his voice. I am definitely in love with his band. Just incredible.

Um. *cough* That was a lot of hockey, wasn't it. I might be a little obsessed. But it's not the only thing I'm thinking about! I have been also contemplating a lot of other fandomy things! )

My three wonderful writers (please see my previous post for the long form of these recs, including warnings) turned out to be [livejournal.com profile] curiouslyfic (who wrote the kickass, amazing (and amazingly long), brilliantly characterized, prickly and hilarious Kitchen Confidential fic), eudaimon (who wrote really lovely Will/Tunny/Extraordinary Girl), and [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis (who wrote gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous Will/Tunny/Extraordinary Girl -- I have to admit that I suspected it was [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, which only made me love the story even more ♥) -- thank you all SO MUCH, I loved the stories ridiculous amounts and adore you all! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

At least a handful of people seem to have enjoyed the three stories I wrote, including the recipients, so I'm happy about that. :) Here they are, in case you're curious:

The Intentional Walk to First (2783 words) by faviconathenejen
Fandom: Princess Diaries - Meg Cabot
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Michael Moscovitz/Mia Thermopolis, Boris Pelkowski/Tina Hakim Baba, Boris/Michael/Mia/Tina
Characters: Mia Thermopolis, Tina Hakim Baba, Michael Moscovitz, Boris Pelkowski, Lana Weinberger
Summary: In which Mia has a very distressing thought, Tina is optimistic, Lana wants Mia to come shopping with her, and Michael and Boris are game.

This was for my originally-assigned recipient and I had lots and lots of fun writing it. I actually wish I'd had time to write a few more of the many story ideas juleshadwords had suggested, because they all sounded like fun, but by the time I had re-read all the books I knew that this was the story I just had to write. I just couldn't turn down an opportunity to write some happy poly! And it was highly, highly amusing trying to write in the style of the books.

At the End of Another Lost Highway (1487 words) by faviconathenejen
Fandom: American Idiot - Green Day/Armstrong
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Heather/Will, Heather/Miguel
Characters: Heather (American Idiot), Will (American Idiot), Miguel (American Idiot)
Summary: If Heather were a different kind of girl, she'd call the situation ironic.

I fell head over heels for American Idiot this year, and while a lot of that had to do with the music, a good chunk of it also had to do with the potential of the characters, the way we only see a certain glimpse of them in the musical but it's so obvious that there's a lot more under the surface. When I saw fivefootnothing's request, Heather kind of sprang into my head fully formed, and I was inexorably compelled to write her story. I really, really loved writing her.

Fandom: Andy You're a Star (Song)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Andy/Narrator
Characters: Narrator (Andy You're a Star), Andy (Andy You're a Star)
Summary: Notes, lists, and not-so-idle thoughts.

One of the shortest things I've ever written, but I was attempting give tiny glimpses into a character's world to imply a lot more than in explicitly said. Who knows if it worked, but I had a lot of fun trying. :) Exterlinden's prompt was really inspiring!

And there you have it, my Yuletide in a nutshell. All three stories I wrote had Teen and Up ratings, which isn't toooooo surprising considering they all had something to do with high school. :)

I had hoped to make a rec post before the reveal occurred, but the less online part of my life was super busy this month, so it didn't happen. Hopefully I'll put something together in the coming week. Also maybe a year-end roundup and/or fandom meme or two? We shall see.

I have no idea how I always get so lucky, Yuletide-wise. This year, I got three fabulous stories! And I'm going to try out AO3's "share" function.

desert island, gun to your head (15221 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Kitchen Confidential
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply (Potentially triggery for slight dubcon, unspecified mental health concerns, and canon kitchen violence.)
Relationships: Steven Daedalus/Teddy Wong
Characters: Teddy Wong, Seth Richman, Steven Daedalus
Summary: Sane is relative in every kitchen Teddy's ever worked but never more so than now.

Basically, some amazing, brilliant person wrote me 15k of Teddy being complex and messed up and in denial and awesome, plus Steven being perceptive and meddling, plus Seth being Seth, plus everyone else at Nolita being very, very themselves -- and I do mean everyone. I love this fic SO MUCH. It made me laugh out loud multiple times and made my heart ache intensely, and then the resolution made me so happy, and the pacing is perfect, and there are so many smart details and canon references, and seriously, everyone should read this fic! It is incredibly entertaining and full of wacky hijinks and people having feelings they don't want to have. And hilarity! :D

In addition to my ridiculously long and satisfying and brilliant main story, I was lucky enough to also receive two wonderful treats, both for my American Idiot prompt.

so there's no mistakes (1347 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: American Idiot - Green Day/Armstrong
Rating: Explicit
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings (nothing specific I can think of besides perhaps mentions of canon war-related disability (amputation))
Relationships: Tunny/Will, Tunny/Will/Extraordinary Girl
Characters: Tunny (American Idiot), Will, Extraordinary Girl
Summary: When the extraordinary girl came back to Jingletown to stay, Will and Tunny found a way to make it work.

This story is super adorable and sweet and healing, and the last scene is just lovely.

in the end it's right (1381 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: American Idiot - Green Day/Armstrong
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply (brief mentions of drug addiction and canon war-related disability (amputation))
Relationships: Tunny/Will/Extraordinary Girl
Characters: Tunny (American Idiot), Extraordinary Girl, Will (American Idiot)
Summary: Sometimes he thinks he's scared of getting hooked on air, which is fucking crazy because everyone's hooked on air unless they have a motherfucking death wish.

Isn't that the best summary ever? Doesn't it make you want to read the fic? Well, you should totally give into that impulse, because this story is gorgeous, delicate, warm, quiet, matter-of-fact, deftly characterized, and perfect. I love this story so much just thinking about it makes my heart feel three sizes bigger.

So yes, three amazing stories. Thank you so, so, so much, dear anonymous authors. I adore you all! ♥ ♥ ♥

Meanwhile, my two recipients both seem to have liked the fics I wrote them, so I am pleased! One of the stories even has a comment from someone else, which is very exciting! :D I also wrote a little Madness treat (they go live tomorrow), so that's three stories in all. If anyone wants to play the guessing game, if you get one right without insider knowledge I'll write you a little something! :)

It has been a kickass Yuletide -- I also betaed ten fics for other people and hippoed at a busy time, and did quite a bit of tag wrangling as well, so I feel pretty happy with it all around. Yay, Yuletide! :D

If you like joy, you should go read The Dream: Not Working, the amazing Ryan Bradley/Jeremy Abbott story that some wonderful, incredible person wrote me for [livejournal.com profile] fs_exchange. In which Ryan is mysteriously depressed after Jeremy moves to Detroit, and most of Team Colorado gets involved despite themselves. So many fantastic details, amusing conversations, and very plausible emotions. I love the characterizations and voices and writing style and, really, everything about this story. And it is MINE! *glee* But everyone should go read it and leave feedback and experience the happiness! You won't regret it. :D :D :D :D :D

Also, it occurs to me that I have been remiss and didn't mention the lovely, lyrical Stephane Lambiel/Brian Joubert story that [livejournal.com profile] glitteratichic wrote for me for [livejournal.com profile] holiday_on_ice: We Were Princes, which gives the reader glimpses of three past lives together and what happens when they meet again in this one. Really interesting and atmospheric and gorgeous. And MINE! ♥

Speaking of mine, I ended up writing two stories for [livejournal.com profile] fs_exchange. If anyone (without insider knowledge, of course) manages to guess one, I'll write you a ficlet. And I'll try not to make you regret it. ;)

24 recs in 21 fandoms, including the two wonderful fics I was lucky enough to receive as gifts, already gushed about here. Most of this text is taken from my bookmarks on AO3 -- go there to check out tags, both mine and that of the authors. I'll note that I've been trying to avoid reclists and just reading things as the whim takes me, but it was difficult to completely avoid looking at the comment and hit counters (and I still haven't decided if I want to quit looking at them entirely or not); in addition, I opted to not include (yet) any of the several wonderful stories I betaed, for the sake of fairness and anonymity. Also, this is truly a random selection -- there are so many more fics I really, really want to read in a huge number of fandoms (including lots of the fandoms included below), I just didn't have time to read most of them. But out of what I did manage to read (an experience that was overall highly enjoyable, even beyond what's on this list), here are some of the stories that stood out (crossovers at the end):

24 recs in 21 fandoms (including crossovers): Anne of Green Gables - Montgomery, Betsy-Tacy - Lovelace, Delilah - Dresden Dolls (song), Harold and Kumar movies, Hunger Games trilogy - Collins, Merlin RPF, Monkey Island, Ocean's Eleven (2001), Project Runway (US) RPF, Romeo and Juliet - Shakespeare, Runaways, Secret Garden - Burnett, Sound of Music (1965), Big Bang Theory/Leverage, Hard Core Logo/Leverage, Leverage/White Collar, and Transamerica/Friday Night Lights/Sons of Anarchy )

6 crossovers (all but one involving Leverage). 11 fics marked General Audiences, 7 Teen and Up Audiences, 1 Mature, 2 Explicit, 2 Not Rated. Lots of slash and gen and het all over the place; several fics with no clear pairing, several with one or more, one threesome (I'm sure if I had gotten around to reading Real Genius before writing this up there would be more!), and one foursome. Length ranging from 285 words to 7315. The only fandom represented more than twice is Leverage (probably because I usually only allowed myself to read one fic in a fandom at a time), and that one only in crossovers.

Enjoy! And happy new year! :)

I don't know how I keep being lucky enough to receive more than one Yuletide fic, but at least this year I wrote more than one? I was trying to pay back some karma, you know? But my gift fics are both so fucking wonderful, I'm not sure that plan worked!

It's fascinating, the two fics are actually from the same fandom, and a tiny one at that -- "Delilah," the Dresden Dolls song. I mean, talk about your small canon! But they somehow manage to be incredibly different, while still both fitting the song perfectly.

Never Met A More Impossible Girl is a snapshot of Amanda and Delilah's friendship after years and years of what we hear in the song, honest and brutal and smart and resigned and tired and emotional. The rhythm of the text is gorgeous, and the second-person pov voice shockingly convincing. These two women and their relationship feel real. ~1000 words of personal history and steadfast love and suppressed despair. Beautifully done.

Have The Night, The Morning Too, meanwhile, runs with the idea that part of Amanda's bitterness is intertwined with her own feelings for Delilah. This fic takes a perfectly-paced arc from Mandy and Delilah's first meeting to... well. A resolution. And it evokes all the feelings in between so palpably, I found myself with tears spilling out of my eyes at the end, but it crept up on me so slowly I hadn't even noticed tearing up. It doesn't shy away from the painful truths (neither of these fics do, which is something I adore about both of them), yet feels hopeful at the core. And I love these characters, they feel so real, and like people I would be friends with. 4k+ words of friendship and miscommunication and love and desire. I don't have the words to explain how brilliant this is, how warm and absorbing and true. It just is.

Everyone should read these two fics (and give the authors feedback!), especially anyone interested in the complexities of female friendship. Such wonderfully drawn relationships! I love them both so much. So much. My heart is just aching with love.

In other news, at least one of my recipients seems to love her story, so I'm happy! Even if that's the only comment I get this year, it is enough.

In four different media forms. :)

1. The three new My Chemical Romance songs that we currently know of. [livejournal.com profile] fleurdeliser has a wonderfully convenient round-up here and the amazing [livejournal.com profile] rossetti has the whole concert here. talk talk talk )

2. Fruits Basket (aka Furuba), a manga by Natsuki Takaya. which is adorable )

3. The tragic love story of Billy Talent and Joe Dick, of Hard Core Logo. I love Billy the most (Callum Keith Rennie is fiiiii-ine), but I also have a soft spot for Joe and his drama and John and his bipolar philosophical ramblings. And I really, really, really want the soundtrack.

4. The proliferation of Leverage fic. I should probably try to put together a reclist in the near future rather than listing things off randomly here, but for now, check out the most recent [livejournal.com profile] polyfandomrecs list, here. Leverage just makes me incredibly happy.

I have finally posted my Top Ten list for the [livejournal.com profile] polyfandomrecs 2009 summer reccing challenge. I'm pretty pleased with the list, which I good considering the insane amount of time I spent on it. It was agonizing trying to choose just ten of the many, many, many bandom fics that include non-monogamy I adore, especially as I wanted a reasonable balance of pretty much everything -- types of non-monogamy, bands and character combinations involved, authors, story and atmosphere and tone. Who knows how well I succeeded, but if you want to see for yourself, here it is. :)

Okay. Apparently there's one thing that can make me pause Burn Notice -- [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore celebrating her birthday by writing the prompt I suggested (Pete/Patrick (or Pete/any, or Patrick/any), substitute)! And doing an absolutely amazing job with it; seriously, this is so hot and sweet and snarkily amusing, I'd say if you have any interest at all in either Pete/Patrick or jealousy, possessiveness, pegging, first times, and/or suppressed longing, read it right now. Right now.

Here:
No substitute for the real thing, but that doesn't keep anyone from trying by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore. Pete/Patrick, Pete/ofc, NC-17, 2700 words. The thing about Lenore's writing is that her character voices are brilliant, full of smart, well-turned phrases that are somehow also down-to-earth and spot-on true. Her Patrick and Pete especially hold a place in my heart, and the grumpy Patrick pov voice in this is a classic. I love this fic so, so much, and recommend it to anyone who likes porn, even people with less than no interest in bandom. Really. Read this fic. You won't be sorry.

I was one of the betas for this and love it madly madly madly. NC-17, Bob/Frank, past Bob/Quinn, and lots of Brian and the rest of MCR being both awesome and incidentally also supernatural creatures. Misunderstandings, scorching hot sex, nearly a millennium of time, instincts and friendships and angst and support and a very satisfying narrative arc. Seriously, I love this story so much. So much!

[livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang is not just a bonanza of fic, it's also a wonderful source of mixes. This year, I got my act together in time to make one! I chose The Shape I Found You In (by redbrickrose, though I didn't know that at the time) from the list of summaries (back then it was titled something different that inspired the mix title) because I really loved the line It's an exhausting thing, sometimes, being loved by Ryan Ross. It's even more exhausting when you love him back. This, despite not so much being a Panic person (I mean, I like them as characters and all, they're just not my first choice out of bandom, or even really my second). But I am a sucker for the "best friends turned lovers" storyline, and the summary made me quite sure this would be a fantastic version. And it was! Reading (and re-reading, and re-reading) the whole draft was an absolute delight -- it has an intense feel to it that I can't explain properly, but it's wonderful. So go read! Possibly while listening to my mix, even. ;)

Here's the tracklist -- includes Morphine, Tom McRae, Wilco, James, Belle & Sebastian, The Airborne Toxic Event, War Tapes, Jeff Buckley, M. Ward, Midtown, Joan Jett, Ghost of an American Airman, Moby, Yoav, The Arcade Fire, Bonnie Prince Billy, Future Bible Heroes, The Magnetic Fields, and Explosions in the Sky. )

Enjoy! All feedback extremely welcome, but not required. :)

1. Iron & Wine thrumming beauty and calm at me. The transition between The Creek Drank the Cradle and Our Endless Numbered Days when I listen to them back to back is especially soothing.

2. The opening of [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang posting! I am eagerly awaiting the fics I betaed and mixed for, but in the meantime, I have started perusing, though only bit by bit, because I'm distracted by resume-revising and the pure, gen, multi-band future-fic delightfulness that is [livejournal.com profile] tigs's Snapshots From a Possible Future, which I have been savoring slowly. The only bigbang fic I've read so far, Your Grievance by the brilliant [livejournal.com profile] iphignia939, made a huge impression on me. Gorgeous, fraught, and a worthy conclusion to the two fics that began her Hellgirl AU (linked at the beginning of the fic). Main pairing is Pete/Patrick, with an absolutely kickass William and several other bandomy people floating around.

3. These terrifically fun Cobra Starship text icons by [livejournal.com profile] katierawr.

4. Up. Seriously in the running for my favorite Pixar film, and given how much I adore basically everything Pixar's ever done, that's saying a lot. Though, if you're anywhere near as susceptible to on-screen emotion as I am, bring tissues! Lots of them! Not that it's not uplifting, of course.

I'm six episodes in to Queer as Folk and I have one main reaction )

I had no idea I would enjoy this so much. I mean, I thought it would be worth watching. But I think I'm getting kind attached.

*wry smile* Like I need another new fandom. In my "hiatus," I've kind of fallen hard for two new ones already -- the brand-spanking-new Star Trek reboot and the gorgeous, rockin' season 8 of American Idol. Well, okay, I don't really care much about American Idol in the general case. Pop music is not so much my thing. But I do care about Adam Lambert (and his ability to actually rock on a pop show, not to mention his insane talent and utter conviction of fabulous self) and Kris Allen (and his pure adorability and goodness), and also Allison Iraheta and her total awesomeness. (For a taste of the delight that is Adam and Kris, check out their interview with US Magazine (note: spoiler for the end of the season, and disregard the silly question about the result)). Star Trek, well, let's just say it was still thoroughly enjoyable the third time through tiny sort-of-not-quite spoiler here ), and I have an unexpectedly enormous crush on one Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, in Karl Urban form. I love pretty much everyone else, too, of course. (I dare you to watch [livejournal.com profile] giandujakiss's adorable Kirk/Spock/Uhura vid and not find it appealing and fun and charming, I dare you.) One more tiny not-quite-spoiler ). But if that's the biggest quibble I have about something, then that's saying a lot. Anyway, I see recs posts in my future for those two.

Which is not to say I'm jumping ship. I'm still happily reading lots of bandom (I'm halfway through writing up a Believers Never Die Part Deux concert report and eagerly awaiting the start of [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang posting), and will be getting back into Supernatural as soon as I manage to watch the final two episodes (I keep being stupid about scheduling so that's two Thursday nights spent on airplanes, oops; plus I'm so annoyed that the CW took the second to last episode off the website so quickly that I don't really want to give them the satisfaction of paying for it by downloading it from iTunes), and will certainly always be hanging out for many other fandoms (for example, I'm on a Leverage kick thanks in part to [livejournal.com profile] norah's fantastic recs post). Anyway, I've been betaing a lot but writing rather little (I always feel like I should be working on my resume instead), but I feel like I should try to fix that -- possibly by scoping prompts at Porn Battle VIII, which is looking to be stellar as always. Prompt-leaving is open 'til 7 pm UK time (that's 1 pm for me on US Central), whee!

I haven't had much time to read, and the reading I've done has been almost completely random. I've been deliberately avoiding reading any reclists before writing this up, though I'll be going back to those in January, I'm sure. There are several fandoms with many stories that I'm really excited about reading, but somehow haven't yet touched, and I've read very few fandoms in their entirety -- for some of the fandoms represented here, the fic I'm reccing is the only one I've actually read. And in some cases that means it's one of the four fics I betaed. But in any case, of the stories I have read, here are some of the ones I've enjoyed most:

Aliens, Askewniverse, Being Human, The Big Bang Theory, The Breakfast Club, Burn Notice, Chuck, Diana Wynne Jones -- Archer's Goon, Guarding Tess, Heathers, Into the Woods, Lois McMaster Bujold -- Vorkosigan series, Love Actually, The Princess Bride, Maud Hart Lovelace -- Betsy-Tacy stories, Mythology -- Greek and Roman, Psych, RPF -- Misc Actors, Shakespeare -- Romeo and Juliet, and Tanith Lee -- The Silver Metal Lover )

25 recs in 20 fandoms. Not bad, considering! Subject line paraphrased from something Angela says during season 2 of Bones: "We build our lives out of chaos, and hope, and love."

Yuletide always makes me feel overwhelmed and incredibly lucky. This year (again!), I received three wonderful stories. The two from my yuletide author (Sleep/No Sleep and Half-Second, probably best read in that order) were both Brick, The Brain/Brendan, and the atmosphere, dialogue, fraught intensity, emotional center, and Brain perspective all really, really worked for me. ♥ The other is a fantastic little War for the Oaks scenelet, Like a New Emotion -- all about healing through music and companionship, featuring Eddi, the Phouka, and Hedge. So much love!

Even better, my recipient seems to have liked my story, which is always a huge relief. It's totally possible no one else will read it, but you know, I don't mind. Though if you happen to guess it before the reveal (and didn't already know of it), I will be happy to write you a prompt ficlet in any fandom I'm even moderately familiar with.

I have a million yuletide story tabs open, and I have no idea how many I'm going to get to before the reveal, but hopefully I'm manage at least a small rec post... We'll see!

I am failing to do so much shit right now, it's kind of ridiculously impressive. So here's a shot at cheering myself up by saying nice things about fic. :)

Fact is, despite the bulk of my reading being mostly bandom, I'm still really very multi-fannish, and this is only getting to be more so -- in the past few months I've fallen head over heels for both Burn Notice and Bones, and I'm pretty sure Pushing Daisies'll happen soon. And I read all over the place. So, here's a little scattering of fics that have made me happy in the last few months, from many different fandoms and in no particular order:

recs for Entourage, Psych, FNL, Burn Notice, Iron Man, Alias, Olympics RPS, SPN, DC universe (Teen Titans), Runaways, Dark Angel, Harry Potter, SGA, SG-1 )

Fandoms I wish were on this list, among others: Bones (because I love everyone on that show), House (especially something duckling-centric!), Veronica Mars (though I did re-read the ones I recced here recently, so that sort of counts), Diana Wynna Jones, Heroes (I miss the delicious fic of Season 1), Smallville (it's been forever since I read any Clark/Lex, and I miss Lex so much now that he's not the star of our weekly "last 5 minutes of Smallville" before Supernatural), Pushing Daisies (maybe reading fic would spur me towards actually watching the dvds that are sitting on the shelf downstairs), and, of course, everything [livejournal.com profile] yuletide-y. If I survive the next week, I'll definitely be looking forward to [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, oh yes.

Oh! And a PSA. If you have ever or would ever like to read any of [livejournal.com profile] mistful's amazing Harry Potter fic, you should go here and download the pdf before November 6th. I've not read all of her stuff, but what I have read tends to be awesome, smart, perceptive, fast-moving, and almost impossibly hilarious. Maybe a little cracky at times, but in the brilliant way.

Wow, I'd forgotten how long putting together rec sets takes. But it was fun. Thank you, and goodnight.
