Is it a bad thing that I'm already looking ahead to next year's Yuletide and thinking about what I might ask for? At least I have a good draft of this year's story already done, to be edited this weekend, so I don't have to feel like I'm completely jumping the gun, but still.

[ profile] marinarusalka and [ profile] eowyns and I have been watching The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. on Thursdays before our usual Supernatural episode, and I think it's absolutely going on my list next year. Now it's just a question of figuring out what pairing I want most! Brisco/Bowler? Brisco/Socrates? Brisco/Dixie? (Because Dixie is fucking awesome -- talk about a woman with some kickass agency!) Brisco & Comet? Brisco & his father? Brisco & the Professor? Hell, Brisco/Bly? Man, I'm going to be sad when we run out of episodes. Luckily there are 27 of them, even if it's only one season.

Meanwhile, I'm reading the world's first novel, The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu (translated and abridged by Edward Seidensticker), for the class I'm TAing, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it's making it onto next year's Yuletide list, too. It was the rampant Genji/To no Chujo (his brother-in-law) in the "An Autumn Excursion" chapter (in which they catch each other having embarrassing liasons with the same elderly court lady, have a mock fight, and leave together in all camaraderie; earlier in the chapter they perform the dance "Waves of the Blue Ocean" together for the court) that really sparked this plan, but in thinking on it, Genji/Prince Hyobu would be deliciously twisted, and is explicitly supported by the text, as they check each other out in the "Lavender" chapter, each thinking that if the other were of the opposite gender, he would be interested. Twisted because Prince Hyobu is (secretly) the father of the girl that Genji has kidnapped with the intent of eventually making her one of his wives (who is named Murasaki, and seems to be the author's analogue in the book). Not that Prince Hyobu knows that Genji is the one that kidnapped her when the checking out is going on, though Genji is aware of the Prince being her father. Ah, court intrigue!

I feel mildly dirty slashing things I'm reading for class, but I swear, The Tale of Genji just asks for it.

I think there needs to be a Brisco/Dixie/Bowler threesome, myself. Bowler certainly sounded interested in the last episode we watched. :-)

Oh, very true! I am fully on board with this notion. *grin* And I could totally see Dixie being all mischievous about it, too.

Dixie is totally woman enough for both of them and would think it great fun. And Brisco would be all charmingly flustered at first, but also intrigued, and it wouldn't take much at all to talk him into it.

*nods vigorously* And then some! Really, Bowler and Brisco are just not that hard to talk into things. Especially if you're Dixie. :)

I remember that show!! I watched it when it was first on, and thought that Brisco was really cute and that Billy Drago was oddly compelling. (Later also found Ed, on "Northern Exposure", oddly compelling and also familiar...took me years to find out that the actors are father and son.)

Okay, and you might appreciate this: When I got hooked on "due South", I had an inspiration for a crossover fic in which Fraser and Kowalski travel back in time via Bly's machine and wind up joining Brisco and Bowler in tracking some bad guys. Come on, it would be awesome. Fraser would be all happy with the horses and old-fashioned justice. And Bowler and Fraser would both be down in the dirt licking stuff to try and track the bad guys, and Kowalski and Brisco would exchange significant glances of commiseration and mutual appraisal.

Well, I didn't say it was a good inspiration.

*grin* Well, I'm glad I'm not completely alone in having a bit of thing for John Bly.

Ha! That would indeed be awesome. Something about imagining both Fraser's and Kowalski's postures wandering around the Brisco County universe amuses me to no end.

You should totally actually write some of these crazy crossover ideas, you know.

Writing my crossover ideas is not necessarily something you want to talk me into.

The current crossover obsession includes "Tin Man", "Supernatural" and Stephen King's Dark Tower series. And it has just begun to spontaneously populate itself with Star Wars references. *facepalm*

*grin* Well, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't ever be bored.
