I have been wanting to make ALL THE POSTS, to go along with needing to do ALL THE THINGS (including ALL THE UNPACKING and ALL THE WRITING), and therefore miring myself in indecision and failing to post/do/accomplish anything. So instead of ALL THE POSTS, for now, have three things.

1. As someone who literally chose her undergrad major by sitting down with a list of the majors my school offered and crossing them off one by one, this might be my favorite xkcd ever.

2. Ryan McDonagh and Adam Henrique FOUGHT during the Game 4! It wasn't much of a fight, really, but I'd been contemplating shipping McDonagh & Henrique for a game or two now (for hatesex-type purposes, primarily), so this made me feel all vindicated. (Of course, I also ship McDonagh & Derek Stepan, in the "have known each other forever" vein. I've been tempted to write them, though it would be easier if they'd been Golden Gophers instead of Badgers together, just 'cause I know a lot more about the University of Minnesota than about Wisconsin, and it would be fun to write something set in the Twin Cities. But perhaps high school, or maybe summer. Hmm.) (Have I mentioned that I really like Ryan McDonagh? I really like Ryan McDonagh. His play has impressed me all year, and he's been a beast in the playoffs. He played over 53 minutes in that triple overtime game vs the Caps. 53! That's nearly an entire hockey game.)

3. The reactions of Team Russia and Team Slovakia upon winning gold and silver, respectively, at Worlds. Yes, I'd like have seen Team USA go farther (and Canada, for that matter, and also Sweden, for Loui Eriksson), but Zdeno Chara wearing Demitra's jersey for the ceremony was basically amazing and made me tear up, and oh, the Russians were SO HAPPY, it was a delight to watch them. They tossed their coach in the air! That is pretty freaking adorable. A couple of random observations: I hadn't realized Datsyuk and Malkin were so fond of each other! I wish Datsyuk and his sneaky sense of humor showed up in more fic. Ovechkin handed the championship trophy Varlamov, who kissed it, raised it over his head, and promptly fell on his ass -- but didn't drop the trophy! Nikulin grabbed it from him to pass on to another Russian player, while Ovechkin and Semin (or Syomin, according to his Team Russia jersey) helped him up, all of them smiling and laughing. Super cute.

Eeeeeee, Mcdonagh love! Isn't he great? He's so great. I have all these creepy maternal feelings of pride about his role in making our D what it is today and his stepping up so frickin' MAGNIFICENTLY to fill MStaal's shoes when everybody was rending garments and gnashing teeth about losing our top D pair in Staal and Danny G. And those maternal feelings make me feel that much more guilty for shipping him so goddamn hard with Steps, but like. Seriously, how do you not? :D Twitterpaaaaaated.

(I also sometimes end up accidentally ot4-ing all the Minnesota boys. Sorry, guys, but Bickel and Sauer are way too pretty to be left out in the cold.)

McDonagh is SO great. He's just so... solid. And he and Stepan are a delight. <3

*cough* It's possible I have been steadily compiling a list of Minnesotans in the NHL (and farm systems) and regularly contemplate shipping any number of them, just for the hell of it. (I grew up in the Twin Cities, so I have a certain amount of affection for all of them.) Also, I keep being startled by how very attractive Bickel is. So I support your OT4 theory!

I went to college up near St. Paul at a tiny religious school and spent, uh, most of my time either wandering inebriated around U of M or out at a gay bar (Townhouse? Gay 90's? Yeeeah.) instead of uh, studying. \0? So my feelings tend toward the &&&MINNESOTA;;; sort. :D Yes.

Sounds like excellent choices all around, then. :D

We really should all be pronouncing Semin as "Syomin". It's old-fashioned to transliterate ë as e. If we did it that way for Varlamov, his first name would be Semen. :|

Ah, good to know the origin of that. Oh, awkwardly transliterated names.

Hello, and welcome! :)

So I've just started investigating all the details of Stepan & McDonagh myself, but the basics are pretty much that they're both from Minnesota (McDonagh was born in St Paul and went to high school at Cretin-Derham Hall, while Stepan's from Hastings (which is just SW of the Twin Cities; could maybe be considered on the outskirts of the Metro Area) and went to Shattuck St-Mary's, which is about an hour south of the Cities) and likely played against each other in high school, and then overlapped for two years at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (Stepan's freshman and sophomore years, McDonagh's sophomore and junior years -- McDonagh is a year and five days older than Stepan). They turned pro at the same time, though McDonagh spent about half of that first season in the AHL, while Stepan immediately stuck with the big club. They were both on Team USA for 2011 Worlds (along w/ Chris Kreider). As far as I can tell, they seem to be close friends from their college years and pretty happy to be doing this together.
