When everything happens all at once, all the good and all the bad and all the stress and all the related failure to keep up with all the things and just, ARGH.

On a mostly unrelated note, I'm doing something I had hoped to avoid ever doing, but hopefully it's only temporary -- locking some of my fic on AO3 to registered users only. (Out of curiosity, anyone know how to edit works that are in a closed collection? Is it just me having this problem?) (Apparently it's a bug, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon enough.) It'll still all be publicly posted here (and possibly I'll even start cross-posting to Dreamwidth like I've been meaning to do for forever) unless shit really hits the fan, because LJ has the "minimize in search engine results" options and AO3 does not. (Apparently I was wrong about that! Woot! Which makes it much more likely that I'll unlock it again later, once the attention-on-Hockey-RPF storm has hopefully blown past.) I allow anonymous comments (screened at first, but I'll unscreen them unless asked not to) and don't log IP addresses or use My Guests or anything like that, so you can comment anonymously without fear if you like. Feel free to ping me if you want pdfs or whatnot.

Also I think I have an AO3 invite kicking around, if anyone wants it.

Not-so-brief fannish update, because why not: under here )

I only have two filters, one for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo and one for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. They will both be active this year! Mini-nano will start out with my long-overdue [livejournal.com profile] sixteenwins fic, but will probably get snippets of various other things as well over the course of the month. Yuletide will probably just be me rambling as I work on my assignment (and possibly some treats). If you were on them before, you're still on them. If anyone else wants on them (or if you were on them and want off), please let me know!

Because apparently I am compelled to sign up for them. I am pretty much in love with some of these prompts, though, so I guess it paid off.

I'm thinking How to Ditch Your Fairy fic (possibly a figure skating rpf AU, or possibly just, you know, fic for the book) for the "sports tryouts" prompt. I'm fairly certain figure skating rpf is going to happen somewhere in there, anyway, and the idea of mundane Justified fic amuses me. And there are so many other possible fandoms...

Incidentally! Lots of nifty things happening in the multi-fandom world of fic:

Porn Battle X is on! Because [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis is awesome. :) Leave prompts here by Thursday at 7 pm UK time.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] realwomenfest exists! Women-centered rpf ficathon and celebration. Prompt away!

Less multi-fandom, but still fabulous: [livejournal.com profile] skategreat's Texts from Last Night figure skating rpf fic challenge (sign-ups close Saturday). Terrific, often hilarious prompts. Only downside, all the plot bunnies I've come up with so far are for other fandoms! Oops.

It is lucky that the deadlines for these are so far away. What is sad is that out of all of these prompts, however, is that the tattoo fic my brain insisted on spinning out after seeing this incredibly intriguing post about Deputy Marshal Tim Gutterson's tattoos (oh, Justified, how I love thee) doesn't manage to fulfill any of them. (I never did write anything for [livejournal.com profile] kink_bingo last year, which means no card for me this year; bad writer, no biscuit.) And somehow I absolutely must make myself stop halfway through Tim's tattoo-acquiring adventures (he's currently driving around Florida because that's where the last stage of Ranger School is) because I desperately need to work on other projects that have more looming deadlines. Ack!

Also I am way behind on replying to people. Conversation failure. /o\

Dear flist:

If you have any interest at all in Figure Skating RPF femslash (or Supernatural femslash!), please please please go vote in the [livejournal.com profile] femslash10 poll to determine this year's listed fandoms. You don't have to be planning to participate to vote -- they're including what people want to read as part of their criteria. (And, you know, if you're interested in femslash for other fandoms, you can vote for them, too! It's just both of those are things I might request that are low on votes right now.) It would be much appreciated! :)

I only have two filters, one for yuletide and one that was for mini-nano. Between being behind on packing and my computer dying a slow and exceedingly annoying death, I have totally failed at [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu, so I don't know that the nano filter will be used this year. However, we're definitely getting to the time where the Yuletide one will be. So if you would like to be on my Yuletide filter (and aren't already, or if you just want to make sure), please let me know. Thanks!

I've signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo again, 100 words a day. Last year was wonderful, producing one of my favorites of the stories I've written, Unclassifiable (SPN, Sam/ofc, high school library sex ftw!) and a Remus/Sirius drabble I never got around to posting outside of lock. I should fix that at some point.

This year, I think I'm going to be mostly working on the long-ass bandom college AU I started awhile back (Brendon pov, to include Panic, FOB, and MCR for sure, and quite possibly others, like TAI and Cobra), based on one of my favorite fantasy novels. There might be other stuff sprinkled in there, too, including whatever my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide assignment ends up being. To avoid everyone having to read my daily nano posts, and to preserve Yuletide anonymity, I'll be resurrecting my mini-nano and yuletide opt-in filters. Please let me know if you want in!

Today was a day of Fail, schoolwise. But apparently I've been so wound up that I actually immediately felt a whole lot better after I fucked up, more relaxed and sort of calmly determined to do better in the future. It was... strange. But possibly good for me.

Apparently, part of that doing better is going to be participating in [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo. If I can't find the time to jot down 100 words/day, I'm doing something very wrong. Thing is, I want to post the snippets mostly to have a record of them, but I don't want to clutter people's LJs unnecessarily, and besides that there's a very good chance that some of the snippets will be Yuletide-related. So I'm thinking I might make a couple of opt-in filters, one for mini-nano and the other for Yuletide talk. If you want in for either of those, please let me know (comment or email, it's all good). If you want in for mini-nano but would specifically like to avoid the Yuletide snippets, please let me know that, too. There may well be the occasional public mini-nano post... just not, you know, daily.

I am all excited because I reacquired my Yuletide source material last week. Haven't had a chance to re-consume it yet, but hopefully soon. I'm still super-eager to get started, and I'm really psyched for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrmo just in general. I think it'll be fun! *grin* But ask me again in a week or two, I guess. This is the first time I've done anything at all like this -- it's only thanks to [livejournal.com profile] technosage mentioning in her LJ that she was doing it that it occurred to me at all.

Whee!

And now, back to reading Edward Said's Orientalism for class tomorrow...

Dear Yuletide Writer:

First off, thank you for being so awesome as to have offered a story in one of the rather odd fandoms I listed! lots of rambling -- please feel free to ignore, especially if you're already sure of what you want to do )

God, this got ridiculously long, and for that I am sorry. In the end, I guess the most important part of what I've been trying to say is, I like a huge variety of stuff, am harder than most to squick, and am willing to try almost anything. So please, just write something you'll have fun writing, and I'm sure I'll love it!

much love,

Fandoms I've written in:

Bandom
Here is Greenwood
Pamela Dean -- Tam Lin
Sandman
Diana Wynne Jones -- The Ogre Downstairs
Supernatural
Wonderfalls
Firefly
Buffy
CWRPS
Heroes

These are the fandoms I read, very very vaguely in order of what I've been in the mood for recently. Obviously, there's a lot of shift at both the micro and macro time spans, but here it is for this moment in time. Much of this is in my profile in either interests or friendslist, but it seems like a good idea to delineate it anyway.

Bandom (especially MCR, but I also read quite a bit of FOB and Panic! and am expanding into others)
Supernatural
RPS (depends a lot on the pairing/cast -- currently reading a lot of CWRPS, have read in the past Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Ocean's Eleven, Brokeback Mountain, Olympics RPS, among others)
DC Comics/Smallville (including all flavors of Batman, Teen Titans, Young Justice, Superman, Justice League, etc.)
Diana Wynne Jones
Entourage
Friday Night Lights
Ocean's Eleven
Burn Notice
Merlin
Die Hard (with a Vengeance, mostly)
Psych
Sports Night
Firefly
Buffy and Angel
Stargate Atlantis
Heroes
Harry Potter
House
Good Omens
Pirates of the Caribbean
West Wing
Veronica Mars
Hairspray/High School Musical/HSM-RPS
Dark Angel
Pundits
James Bond
The Fast and the Furious
The Breakfast Club
L.A. Confidential
Studio 60
X-men
Mac/PC
Saiyuki
From Eroica With Love
Lost
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
SG-1
Gilmore Girls

Fandoms I've read either a little or none in and would like to read more of (in no particular order, and among many others):
Banlieue 13
Wonderfalls
Bones
10 Things I Hate About You
War for the Oaks
Tam Lin
Initial D (movie)
Here is Greenwood
Newsies
Strangers in Paradise
The Outsiders
Jane Austen
Shakespeare
Greek Mythology
The Tale of Genji
Closer
Cruel Intentions
How I Met Your Mother
Dresden Files
Askewniverse (Kevin Smith movies)
Brick
Hackers
Anita Blake, Merry Gentry
Coupling UK
The Prestige
La Femme Nikita
Head of the Class
Death Note
Temeraire
Gaiman's Sandman, American Gods
Real Genius
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
The Big Bang Theory
Arrested Development
Bring It On
Bend It Like Beckham
Kitchen Confidential
Probably a lot of fiction and movies I haven't even thought of (yet)

Types I'd like to read more of:
crossovers, femslash, threesomes
kink -- power/control play, spanking, bondage, voyerism/exhibitionism, roleplay, etc.
UST and first-time fics of various kinds

Incidentally, if you would like recs for a particular fandom, please ask! It may well affect what order in which I pick things for my (weekly) recs.

Over the last several years I've found myself reading more and more fanfiction, enjoying some of it immensely. From the very beginning I tried to keep track of everything I read, and eventually started to also jot down brief notes about pairings and my snapshot opinion of each fic so that I would be able to go back and easily remember stories and perhaps rec them. This list has built up into truly insane proportions, so I thought it might be fun to start sharing some of it in a more organized fashion.

There's no way I'll be able to do this in one comprehensive fell swoop, so instead I plan to post random bite-sized snippets. At the very least, once a week I will post a list of five recommendations -- they might be fics read in the distant past but unified by pairing or theme, they might be all fics from one author, they might be the best five fics written in the past week that i managed to read and from all different fandoms, etc. I may post more often than that, and I'll probably post things other than recs, too (most likely gushing about shows, musings about characters, possibly even fic if I'm ever struck with the need to write some myself), but the once a week deadline will be the baseline for progress.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there's a bunch of fandom etiquette regarding recs and critiques that I don't yet know; I hope that I don't offend anyone in the meantime while I suss out the scene. I would be psyched to have input about such things, especially if it seems like I'm going in the wrong direction. I am also always looking for more good stuff to read, so please rec away.

Note to all: this journal is centered on discussing (deviant, or at least deviating) sexual behavior largely unintended by the creators of the characters involved. If these sorts of things bother you, I don't recommend reading on. If, on the other hand, that is exactly why you're here, then welcome!
