Give me a pairing and I will tell you:

who is the big spoon/little spoon
what is their favorite non-sexual activity
who uses all the hot water in the morning
what they order from take out
what is the most trivial thing they fight over
who does most of the cleaning
what has a season pass in their DVR
who controls the netflix queue
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working
who steals the blankets
who leaves their stuff around
who remembers to buy the milk
who remembers anniversaries

It's been a rough weekend, after a rough week, after a rough month; hell, it's been kind of a rough year -- at this point, I'm just hoping to make it through the holidays and that 2012 will be better. So please, help me distract myself by way of adorable domesticity! :D

(At least my writing mojo seems to have shown up again, just in time for [ profile] mini_nanowrimo success and also, of course, for Yuletide! My Yuletide assignment is KICK ASS, I am so excited. I've also made lots of progress on the hockey fic I've been writing (and enjoying it lots and lots in the process; oh, hockey, how I love you), which is pleasing. Silver linings!)

My guilty pleasure OTP:
My anti-OTP:

There was a story rec on my friendslist for a story I would dearly love to read right now but can't because I am in Determined mode re: Yuletide, but seriously, even just reading the title made my heart ache and my tear ducts itch, because I love that song, it's one of the ones I sing, and that particular line is one of my favorites and has so much wistful sweetness in it. Plus I've been feeling kind of homesick for the places I no longer live, anyway, and most especially the people in those places, and that line ("when all of New York City misses you") tapped right into that. *facepalm* I have to get it together! Though at least being emotional oughtn't hurt my Yuletide story.

Incidentally, I don't usually put myself into these things, but I figured if there's any time I could use a little love, now might be it. So here's my thread at the Holiday Love Meme. I feel a bit weird even mentioning it (though I like seeing other people mention it!), but there it is.

And now I need to get back to work (and also get more sleep, damn it). *buckles down*

This post is probably going to be the very definition of tl;dr, as I plan to spend it talking about the matches in [ profile] cidercupcakes' Home Team 2009: Round One, full of wonderful fictional women and proof once again that I hold a fuckton of unpopular fandom opinions. It is my fervent hope that by spending some time writing this out, I will soon feel enough recovered from Comic-con (which gave me a horrible cold; yesterday I wouldn't've been able to type out even this) to write that up too. Because obviously voting last night is part of why I feel marginally better this morning. :)

unpopular opinions and talk talk talk about favorite female characters this way )

Note: feel free to discuss, try to change my mind, etc, etc. Voting goes until Monday night and all votes can be changed until then. You should all go vote! It's good for one's health, I'm telling you. :)

ETA: Note that I actually do like the vast majority of these characters, even the ones I also find irritating. And I fully believe that all of them could be written such that I would like them. It's just not my usual and/or consistent experience, necessarily.

[ profile] cidercupcakes is holding Home Team: The 2009 Matches with female characters only, asking people to nominate (and second nominations of) characters in the comment. The post is already at 10 pages of comments! I went through and agreed with lots of the choices, and added a couple nominations of my own. It was a pleasure to spend some time thinking about characters I have loved. There are several characters that I really believe ought to have more comments (links go to that character's thread; this is approximately in reverse order of where each character appears in the comments):

Angela Montenegro of Bones (I was surprised she hadn't been added yet even though Brennan had.)

Sophie Hatter of Howl's Moving Castle (I was fairly certain other Diana Wynne Jones heroines would be too obscure, but maybe the fact that this was a Ghibli/Miyazaki movie as well will help.)

Sara Crewe of A Little Princess (A late entry; I've been glad to see so many childhood loves on this list.)

Dolores Landingham of The West Wing (Another later entry; who doesn't love Mrs. Landingham?)

Jo March of Little Women

Velma from Scooby-Doo

Tyra Collette of Friday Night Lights

Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan of Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan books

Hua Mulan from The Ballad of Mulan -- scroll down to read the poem (kicking ass for nearly a millennium and a half)

Teyla Emmagen of Stargate: Atlantis

Elizabeth Bennet of Pride and Prejudice (Lizzy actually has a number of votes, I just feel like she ought to have all the votes!)

Molly Hayes of Runaways

Abby Sciuto of NCIS (also has a bunch of votes, but deserves way more)

The Chief (that is, Karen Vick) of Psych (It is absolutely criminal that Chief Vick has so few votes.)

Juliet O'Hara of Psych

Commander Susan Ivanova of Babylon 5

Temperance "Bones" Brennan of Bones

Miranda Zero of Global Frequency

Private Jeannette Vasquez of Aliens

Mary Campbell/Winchester of Supernatural (If anyone ought to have more votes, especially anyone on the very first page of comments, it's Mary.)

Voting ends 7/27/09, 11:59 pm EST. Whee!

The first seven people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- What I create will be personalized and intended for you.

- It'll be done this year (2009).

- You will have no idea what it's going to be. Given my default skill sets, it's most likely to be fiction, a mix cd, a recs list, or some kind of meta, but food or a more general crafty sort of object are also possibilities, and in all cases input would be welcome.

The catch? You have are encouraged, but not required, to put this offer in your journal as well, and make seven things for your friends!

And this meme looked too fun to resist. Snagged from lots of people.

Pick up to 15 OTPs.
Describe them in less than 15 words.
Have your flist guess the OTP.

1. He let him use his drums, and you know what that means. [Bob/Patrick of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, respectively, guessed by [ profile] anoneknewmoose]
2. That they were so close just made the apparent betrayal hurt worse. They reconciled; he had to leave right after, leaving him bemused, yet surrounded by friends.
3. Their happy ending would be driving off into the sunset. [Dean/Sam from Supernatural, guessed by [ profile] oxoniensis]
4. Proof that it's possible to be incredibly cool and incredibly dorky all at once. And very public proof, at that, as youtube shows them all over each other. [Frank/Gerard of My Chemical Romance, guessed by [ profile] sister_wolf and [ profile] greenlily]
5. She brought out the best in him, he made her always suspect the worst. [Logan/Veronica from Veronica Mars, guessed by [ profile] oxoniensis]
6. As long as television doesn't steal him away, they'll make beautiful music together. A little bit of country, a little bit of rock'n'roll, and a dash of jazz/funk.
7. She is the sensible center to his slipping away. She changes age, he changes hair color. [Howl/Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, guessed by [ profile] elsane]
8. He was the mysterious gentleman to her determined songstress. One of them is human; the other, not so much. [Eddi/Phouka from War for the Oaks by Emma Bull, guessed by [ profile] elsane]
9. Mutual antipathy melts in the face of bonding over books at a convention. [Maree/Rupert from Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones, guessed by [ profile] elsane]
10. He's the only one he can count on in a dark, complicated world. Because high school and film noir go so well together.
11. Light and dark muddied into a pleasant, human grey. [Aziraphale/Crowley from Good Omens by Pratchett & Gaiman, guessed by [ profile] oxoniensis and [ profile] elsane]
12. They fell together, walked the earth together, and, in the end, repented together. [Bartleby/Loki from Dogma, guessed by [ profile] oxoniensis]
13. He died for him, he killed for him, and everyone dies in the end. [Mercutio/Romeo from Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, guessed by [ profile] anadamous, despite my slight inaccuracy in description]
14. She was mistaken about him, he overcomes himself for her. [Elizabeth/Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, guessed by [ profile] elsane]
15. They made a good team and saved his home behind the wall. From opposite sides of the law, but both more moral than the government. [Damien/Leito from Banlieue 13, guessed by [ profile] czeri]

3 RPF pairings, 3 television shows, 3 movies, 6 books/plays. Probably a little more on the obscure side, overall.

[I'm going to italicize the ones that've been guessed correctly (yay!), but I think I'm also going to leave off the answers for about 12 hours so that people can guess if they like before looking at the comments. And I'll be asleep for some of those hours, so the list might not get updated for a bit, anyway. And then I might give further clues...

I keep meaning to do a 2008 fandom retrospective, but I just skimmed the stuff I wrote for mini-nano and realized that what I really want to do is talk about writing, both what I did last year and my plans for this year.

Incidentally, I would love more first kiss prompts. Here's the original meme:

Comment with two characters I'm familiar with, and I'll tell you how they kissed (the first time).

Meme, snagged from [ profile] marinarusalka and [ profile] rue_quercus, among others.

If you would be so kind, ask me the seven questions below. Just copy and paste them into a comment, replace the blanks with anything you want--personal, silly, surreal (e.g. 3. Donkeys or sandcastles and why?), or deep--and I'll answer honestly as I can! Then, if you like, post this in your own LJ and see what kind of things people want to ask you!

1. What do you think of _____________ ?

2. When did you last ____________?

3. __________ or ___________ and why?

4. What did you ______________?

5. What's your favorite ______________?

6. How would you ______________?

7. Who would you most like to ________ ?

(But only if you want to!) ([ profile] marinarusalka, I leave it up to you whether or not you want to do it again. *grin* And you're totally right, it's damn hard getting it down to just 10! There are several others who ought to be on this list.)

Comment to this entry with any fandom. If I'm knowledgeable enough in the fandom to have ships, I'll tell you one non-canon ship I like, one canon ship I like, and one ship I really don't like (either canon OR fanon). Then (if you like) post this in your own journal to offer up the same responses.

*facepalm* I didn't intend for this to happen. But those first-kiss descriptions? Seem to be turning into actual fic. Short fic -- this one is about 750 words. And probably not exactly competent fic, because I hardly ever write fic and much of this is experimentation with fandoms and characters I've never written before. But fic nonetheless. Constructive criticism is very much welcome; if this keeps happening I'm going to have to start a search for some betas, I think.

Title: Shows me colors when there's none to see

This looks fun. Don't know if I'll get to them until the weekend, but you never know. Please, aid me in my procrastination.

Comment with two characters I'm familiar with, and I'll tell you how they kissed (the first time).

Fandoms here. I'm not caught up in all of these, so if there are characters I am unfamiliar with I may request an alternative option. I've also seen the first season of How I Met Your Mother recently, and characters from older tv shows and movies are also welcome, though less safe, as there will probably be many unfamiliar to me.
